My first Search Engine Experiment

I have already told you about my recent interest in Search Engine Optimization. After that post, I set out to learn SEO using various resources (and there were tons of them) and now I am trying to implement what I learned.

If you don’t know what SEO is, here is what Wikipedia have to say about it:

Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of improving the volume and quality of traffic to a web site from search engines via “natural” (”organic” or “algorithmic”) search results. Usually, the earlier a site is presented in the search results, or the higher it “ranks,” the more searchers will visit that site. SEO can also target different kinds of search, including image search, local search, and industry-specific vertical search engines.

As my first search engine experiment I targeted this blog for the keyword “umer“. That means I want to be the first to appear when you search for “umer“. Ok, not many people search for that word, but I don’t want to start with a competitive keyword.

What is with umer? I already rank for “jaseem umer” and “jaseem“, so I simply selected “umer“.

When I started, my position in Google was in the third page, now I am second in the second page (who said SEO doesn’t work?). I have used many techniques available to me and I haven’t started the most important part yet: link building.

I have to say: “I love this game”. It is quiet interesting, it works and it is something really valuable (people pay hundreds of dollars to get this thing done).

Hope I will get in the front page soon. If you have any tips to share with me, that is what the comment section is for.

That’s for today. See you again in the next post. Hope I will have something interesting then.

Note: I have used some technical terms in this post. If you can’t understand them, you can either ignore them or find their meaning using Google.

Should I write everyday in my blog?

Almost all bloggers are saying yes, but Tim Ferris is a big exception. Guess what, I am a fan of him.

If you are asking me to write everyday, as per my current mind, I am going to kick your butt.

I have tried that once and failed utterly. I have found that, forcing myself to write posts everyday is not doing any good and actually is badly affecting the fun of blogging.

I write when I feel to write or when I have something to write. This workflow has been doing great work and I am not any pro-blogger to punch out content everyday on my selected topic.

I would like to know what your opinion is. But let me say, I am not going to hit publish everyday just because of your comment.

I want to be in Technorati’s top 100 blogs list

The post header tells what the post is about.

It is my dream to have this blog inside Technorati’s Popular Blogs List. Too big to make it a dream? Definitely not. Actually we call a goal a dream when it is too big to make step-by-step plan. The same goes here. I don’t know what to do to make this dream a reality, or at least to make this dream a goal.

Don’t think I am not going to do anything with this. What should I do? I have to simply look at the blogs which are already in the list and replicate them. There aren’t much blogs which are known in the name of the author inside the list, so it is easy for me. What I have to do is have a blog like Scobleizer or Matt Cutts’. The list actually calculates a blog’s place using the number of incoming links to that blog.

I have to write in my blog about what I am an expert in. I am an expert in nothing, actually. So I am going to write about things I am interested in

If you haven’t noticed, I have changed the description of this blog to “The World in a Kid’s View”. Cool, ha?

Goal set, I have to kick the ball now. What are you waiting for, give me a link. Or any tips?
